The HP Hamon Memorial Centre was built in 1978 as a stock viewing and sales area. Various additions and changes of use have occurred since and the building uses are currently divided as follows:
1. An auditorium originally used for stock viewing and as a movie theatre (reconfigured for use as a lecture theatre) is located to the rear of the building.
2. The Lawes Campus Club is located at the front of the building.
3. A kiosk for serving beverages is positioned in the courtyard to the East of the auditorium.
TVS were engaged by the University of Queensland to refurbish and develop the auditorium to provide a 300 seat lecture theatre and an 80 seat capacity seminar room.
The courtyard is also being developed as a forecourt to the lecture space to provide an area for students to gather before and after lectures and to open out the views to the Gatton countryside.
With the refurbishment of the rear auditorium section and adjacent landscape areas, the aim is to provide an active teaching space at this end of the campus.
